Metro, world's 4th largest retailer, operates Europe's biggest consumer electronics chains Media Markt and Saturn with sales of € 19 billion ($ 25 billion). It now seeks to overtake the world's specialized number 1, Best Buy from the U.S. ($ 45 billion sales) in China with its two brands. First Media Markt is planned in Shanghai in 2010, followed rapidly by 12 more and, in the middle term, by 300 in the large cities of China. Best Buy has now 6 stores operating under its own brand and 165 Five Star in China. Worldwide Metro grows quicker than Best Buy thanks to its new openings : 71 in 2008 including 61 outside Germany and 40 planned in 2009 in Eastern Europe. Best Buy has planned 65 units in 2009 including 20 outside the U.S.
