Property owners in Petaling Jaya will have until 6 July to take advantage of the RM100,000 Low-Carbon Green Rebate Assessment Scheme offered by the city council (MBPJ), according to a report by Star Property.

Lee Lih Shyan, Chief at Petaling Jaya One-Stop Centre, said that he recently went around Section 19 to inform the residents about the scheme. To date, however, only eight residents had obtained forms and listened to the assessment scheme breakdown.

Tan Yew Leong, Residents' Association Chairman at Section 19, said only a few residents are applying for the scheme because many do not know its details as it was just launched in 4 June.

"I barely had enough time to get one banner printed. I hung it near the field in Section 19. But I will still be receiving forms from the residents and forwarding to MBPJ before the closing date," noted Tan.

Quah Sin Hock, Residents' Association Chairman at Jasmine Towers, also went to Section 19 to collect the forms and listen to Lee. Quah said he will inform the residents in his area about the scheme and how the assessment was conducted.

Lee said the city council has allocated RM100,000 for the scheme and is eyeing around 200 eligible households for the rebate.

"It is not just a matter of buying and installing green equipment in your home or business. We're also looking at how comprehensive the installations are, and how efficiently the property uses it," noted Lee.

Lee explained that the city council will be stricter on their assessment and other aspects, such as water consumption and electricity will also assessed. For instance, in one house an energy-efficient solar heater was only fitted in the master bathroom.

"This year, we'll be more stringent in our assessment. If you feel that your property qualifies for the low-carbon green rebate, download both the guidelines and assessment forms from the MBPJ's website and submit to us before 5pm on 6 July," added Lee.
