The security of shopping malls in the district should be heightened to ensure the safety of customers, said ACP Arjunaidi Mohamed, Petaling Jaya Police Chief.
The Petaling Jaya police will hold a meeting to discuss with the management of shopping complexes on how to improve the security level at their premises. This move follows an attempted robbery at One Utama shopping complex on 16 July, wherein a businessman and his wife were assaulted by a man.
The victims were unable to identify the culprit, who escaped after several customers tried to help the couple.
"We are investigating the footage from the closed circuit television (CCCTV) cameras installed at the shopping complex," Arjunaidi added.
This most recent case involving the businessman and his wife in One Utama has spread like wild fire all over social media networks such as Facebook. It follows an onslaught of similar cases in other retail malls throughout Klang Valley in which the safety of shoppers have been compromised.
