Long known as the premier shopping district in Singapore, Orchard Road (pictured) is now fighting to keep its status as top dog, amid stiff competition.
With newer shopping areas such as Marina Bay Sands attracting the customer demand and sales, the association overseeing Orchard Road is now increasing its efforts to attract more customers and improve sales.
According to Steven Goh, Director of the Orchard Road Business Association (ORBA), the measures will take the form of public-private partnerships and new initiatives to be introduced over the next five years.
Orchard Road is faced with fierce competition not only from neighbouring shopping areas like Marina Bay but also from other cities, such as Bangkok and Hong Kong, added Goh.
