by Cheryl Tay: A new twist from the small office home office (Soho) concept is being tried in the market, the 'work office home office' (Woho).
In its new Fusionopolis project, Ascendas applied the idea of adding Woho units. Although the project is basically a business park, it allows offices to double as homes, with each 'module' accommodating two people.
Given that the Woho is still in the design stage, it is still not certain whether all modules would be equipped with facilities, like bathrooms. Nonetheless, there will be some flexibility for tenants to personalise their space.
To illustrate, an entrepreneur who has set up his company could rent a module which can serve as his home at the same time. When the business eventually expands and more staff are hired, the neighbouring modules can then be rented.
Chong Siak Ching, President and Chief Executive Officer at Ascendas Group, said the Woho concept is expected to attract creative individuals who work around the clock.
The Fusionopolis project will cater to multiple tenants in the sectors of media, engineering and electronics.
