Phnom Penh
By Liam Aran Barnes
Most new cities are an out of this world fantasy for the average Cambodian.
The term ‘satellite city’ seems to have become synonymous with the Phnom Penh property market in recent years, with a number of peri-urban projects designed to put Cambodia’s capital firmly on the investor radar as an economically progressive city. Scandals, delays and controversies have, however, marred many of these developments, casting an increasing shadow over how beneficial, or even necessary they actually are in a country where more than 31 per cent of the population remain below the poverty line.
