Egyptian authorities will deliver more than 7,000 homes to slum dwellers across Cairo over the coming months as part of the capital city's ambitious housing development project, said a report.

The Cairo governorate has already handed over 5,700 housing units as part of the scheme, stated Amwal Alghad, citing the governor Atef Abdel Hamid.

"The governorate is working on its plans to provide housing units for beneficiaries including special needs, newlyweds and slum-dwellers," said Abdel Hamid.

The move comes as part of the government plan for slum redevelopment and also provide suitable homes for the poor sections of the society in capital Cairo, said the report.

Last year, the authorities relocated about 930 slum-dwellers from unsafe homes in Al Doweiqa to Al Asmarat City besides shifting another 330 people from Tel Al Aqareb to 6th of October area, it added.
